Breeio’s AI-powered learning portal helps Priory win nursing award
Priory’s innovative AI-powered training programme for newly-qualified nurses, developed in Breeio, has been named “Proven Concept” winner at the Nursing Times Digital Competition Awards 2024.
This prestigious national award recognises Priory’s Preceptorship Programme, developed in partnership between Priory and Acteon experts, for its innovative and outstanding provision of flexible, continuous training for nurses.
Tailored professional development
Breeio’s AI-assisted online portal replaces a traditional paper-based system. Judges praised the portal’s self-paced learning, skills assessment, AI-driven reflection and goal-setting tools aligned with NHS England’s framework.
Priory’s Preceptorship for Newly Registered Nurses programme supports newly qualified nurses, nursing assistants and international nurses to develop in their roles.
The portal, developed in Breeio, including modules on Clinical Practice and Leadership, enables preceptees to tailor their development and transition effectively from students to registered professionals.
The Breeio learning portal software allows Priory’s newly qualified nurses to complete self-paced learning, join cohorts for virtual training sessions, set personal objectives with the assistance of state-of-the-art AI coaching support, and log clinical reflections with immediate feedback from an AI coach trained on the Nursing and Midwifery Code.
Results have been impressive.
- Since implementation, participation in the training programme has more than doubled, with ongoing support and plans for further interactive features.
- On average, preceptees have improved in confidence in all 43 areas of clinical skill self-assessment through taking the programme.
Priory’s new nurses have said they appreciate the immediate feedback provided by Breeio’s AI coach, with more than 90 per cent saying it improved their preceptorship learning. “It helped me consider things I hadn’t recognised myself,” commented one nurse.
A high bar
The Nursing Times Awards celebrate innovative and patient-focused uses of technology and data in healthcare, recognising individuals and teams in the NHS or independent sector for initiatives that improve health outcomes, patient experience, or service effectiveness.
The ‘Digital Practice: Proven Concept’ award highlights initiatives that have moved beyond the idea stage and have been successfully implemented in practice, demonstrating tangible benefits in areas such as patient care, safety, or operational efficiency through the use of digital technology.
Georgina Turner, Priory’s associate director of nursing and quality for professional development, said:
“We’re delighted with this recognition from Nursing Times. Across the UK, our brilliant team of mental health nurses are making a huge, positive difference to the lives of the people we support.
“We’re passionate about supporting their professional development to ensure that care can be a career, so we have invested heavily in a range of ways to support our colleagues to develop.
“This preceptorship initiative is streamlining professional growth for our colleagues, and improving access to world-class training for our widely spread nursing teams.”
Matthew Borg, managing partner at Acteon, said:
“Our 20-year partnership with Priory has always been about providing great learning opportunities that make a difference.
“It’s wonderful to see how new learning technology like AI can be used to benefit Priory colleagues and ultimately those they support.”
